Downtown Chatham Centre was opened in October 1982 and it currently houses over 40 stores & services. The mall is anchored by two national retailers, Sears and Goodlife Fitness. DCC is the only indoor retail mall in the Chatham-Kent area.
Services offered are mall security officers, lost & found, complimentary wheelchair & electric scooters, children’s car strollers, ATM, postal drop, cafe style seating areas on the main level, the recent addition of an electric vehicle charging station located in the large parking lot behind Retro Suites and free parking in our parking garage (450 stalls) & surface lots (300 stalls).
DCC prides itself as a green shopping centre. In October 2010 the Downtown Chatham Centre was awarded the Waste Minimization Award, from the Recycling Council of Ontario, in recognition of excellence and commitment to a sustainable environment. DCC was awarded a Communities in Bloom Award in 2010. In May 2013 DCC was ground Zero for Chatham’s most aggressive electronic waste fundraising project for Habitat for Humanities; over 150 tons of e-waste was diverted from landfills and won us a Guinness World Record for most e-waste collected in one day. Other green advances in 2013 included the installation of an electric vehicle charging station – the first public charging station offered in Chatham-Kent and switching all the shopping centre’s lighting to energy saving LED bulbs.
DCC is very involved in the local community and there are always various community events, entertainment, and activities taking place at the mall. Various children’s activities & entertainment have visited DCC, such as the well-known Children’s show Thomas the Tank Engine Binoo, and are usually offered free of charge. DCC has been the home to the Chatham Mall Walkers for the last 25 years.
